Nominations for Fourth Annual AOA-Zimmer Award Being Accepted
ROSEMONT, Ill. and WARSAW, Ind., Aug 11, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- The American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) and Zimmer, Inc. awarded Albert B. Ferguson, MD, the Third Annual AOA-Zimmer Award for Distinguished Contributions to Orthopaedics at the 117th Annual AOA Meeting, June 23-26, 2004, in Boston, MA.
The award is presented annually to recognize outstanding leaders in orthopaedic surgery whose work results in sustained and substantial contributions and leadership through clinical, educational, research or other meritorious means. The $50,000 grant was awarded to Dr. Ferguson because of his role in enhancing and shaping the specialty.
"Receiving this award was a wonderful surprise -- I am honored that I was chosen to accept such a prestigious award," said Dr. Ferguson. "The title of my speech, "Motivate with Honor and Love - Not Fear," are words that I have built my success upon and are words that I encourage others to follow. Dr. Ferguson was chairman of the department of orthopaedic surgery and Silver Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1952 until his retirement in 1986. He also served as president of the AOA in 1976.
